Instagram Stories are a fantastic way to create a presence on Instagram without overwhelming your followers. We all see those people (or those brands) who post way too much. Whether it's multiple times a day, every day, or even a few times a week with repetitive content, no one wants to see the same person or brand over and over again on their feed. Not only will too much presence inevitably cause a loss of attention from your followers, but it might just cost you those followers too. That is why Instagram Stories are a useful tool when it comes to sharing content with your followers. You can post multiple photos, videos, and/or boomerangs in one place that requires purposeful engagement from your followers; they have to either click on your Instagram Story to view it or continue clicking through others' Instagram Stories to get to yours. Either way, your content is not overwhelming anyone's Instagram feed yet it can still make a meaningful impact.
I was in New York for a total of ten days. I made three actual posts on my Instagram Feed and thirty-two total posts on my Instagram Stories. Instagram Stories are more casual in comparison to Feed posts resonating more like Snapchat stories. For this reason, it did not feel unusual to post the little moments throughout my day onto my Instagram Story. I love to add them to the Highlights Reel on my Personal Feed page too; they are so fun to go back and look at and feel almost like a digital scrapbook. Plus, you can tag the people you are with AND the locations you visit! So if you ever want to go back to that one amazing taco place you stumbled upon in Brooklyn... check back on your Instagram Story to remind yourself exactly where you ate! This is a great way to share your experiences while promoting cool businesses and fun locations to visit.
One of my personal favorite things to add to my Instagram Stories are a still type of Boomerang. By still Boomerang, I mean that I hold my camera still while creating the Boomerang; this allows the contents in the frame to move naturally. It creates a sort of feeling that you are there with the person taking the Boomerang. It's short, sweet, and interesting to look at- especially when capturing moving water or flowers blowing in the breeze.
Another great thing about creating Instagram Stories is that you can see your engagement numbers. This means that you can see how many people viewed what you posted! Too, people often quick respond to Instagram Stories by swiping up and either typing a direct message or reacting with one of the prompted emojis. I find that I get more responses from my followers via Instagram Story than I do on my regular feed posts! You'll also receive a notification if someone else mentions you in their story. After this, you can then the post that you're mentioned in on to your story. All in all, Instagram Stories are a very versatile and non-invasive way to share experiences with all of your followers!
